J. Alan Johnson

Mr. Johnson has been in private practice over twenty years. Before entering private practice, he served from 1981 to 1989 as the presidentially-appointed United States Attorney for the Western District of Pennsylvania. While he served as United States Attorney, he was chosen by his peers as Chairman of the Attorney General’s Advisory Committee of United States Attorneys. He was selected to serve as a member of the Federal Judicial Selection Committee of Pennsylvania and has been chosen to serve on merit selection committees for the United States Attorney, the Federal Public Defender, United States Magistrate Judges, and selected to chair a transition committee for the District Attorney of Allegheny County.
Prior to his tenure as United States Attorney, he served as First Assistant United States Attorney, Assistant United States Attorney, Special Attorney with the Criminal Division of the United States Department of Justice, and as an Assistant District Attorney in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.
Mr. Johnson has also served as an adjunct professor of law as an instructor of federal criminal law at Duquesne University Law School, and has lectured on numerous occasions at educational seminars for attorneys and accountants.
Mr. Johnson is a member of the American Bar Association, member and Fellow of the Allegheny County Bar Association, the National Association of Criminal Defense Attorneys, the American Board of Criminal Lawyers, and the National Association of Former United States Attorneys.

Mr. Johnson received his Juris Doctor degree from Duquesne University School of Law in 1971.
He was awarded the Outstanding Alumni Award from Duquesne University School of Law in 1985.
